Zambia Garden of Hope is helping vulnerable families in rural Zambia build a more self-sustaining future. This fundraiser will provide a community corn grinder and a structure to house it, making it easier for families to turn the corn they harvest into mealie meal—a staple used for porridge and nshima. Today, corn is often pounded by hand, a slow and physically demanding process that can cause painful blisters and produces only small amounts of mealie meal at a time. A local grinder will allow families to process larger quantities of their own harvest, helping make nutritious meals more consistently available, including for school-age children. The grinder will also provide an affordable local service for surrounding villages and create a sustainable source of income to help support the community. Funds will also help expand our chicken project and support the growing of corn and vegetables—creating food, work, and greater self-reliance for rural families.
